ChoraleBricks

A modular multitrack dataset for wind music research built from isolated chorale recordings.

ChoraleBricks is a modular multitrack dataset for wind music research. It contains recordings of ten four-part chorales, each separated into soprano, alto, tenor, and bass voices and performed by a range of wind instruments including flute, oboe, clarinet, trumpet, saxophone, baritone, trombone, and tuba.

The central idea is that the isolated recordings can be used as musical building blocks. They can be combined into different quartet instrumentations, mixed into full ensembles, or used for controlled experiments in polyphonic wind music. Alongside the audio, the dataset provides sheet music, aligned symbolic representations, conducting videos, and reference annotations.

ChoraleBricks supports research on multi-pitch estimation, note transcription, audio alignment, dataset augmentation, and music education applications. The accompanying website includes an interactive multitrack player for exploring the recordings.
